I was surfing the web and looked into what the "Rip Off Press" was up to; I have the latest in "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" Supposedly, a film is coming out soon. I will watch for that one!
One good thing about growing up in the Fabled San Francisco "East Bay" was unfettered access to great underground comics like the "Freak Brothers" and "Today's Army, With Dopin' Dan".
I really don't approve of drugs, but I can definitely see the humor associated with addicted folks who just can't help themselves. Dopin' Dan was a pathetic example of an unhappy soldier who just wanted to get high and have a girlfriend.
The comics are still in a box in the closet, I may scan some in. They are quite funny if you were there, because we all knew someone like Dan and the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. (In fact, Fat Freddie lived on my mom's couch for three years!)
I know Buck relates. Come to think of it, Buck had blonde hair and a mustache... Naw!

Close... but no... umm... cigar. Coz Dopin' Dan was in the Army, yanno? :D
Yes, possibly the Army Air Corps...
Just sayin' you knew some of these cats, back in the Parted Hair in Middle days.
With Levi's and Levi Jackets. And brown boots. With a "Bread" 8 Track in the back pack.

Grateful Dead, Darryl, or mebbe New Riders of the Purple Sage. No respectable member of that tribe would be caught dead with Bread, unless it was the folding variety... (Heh)
Buck; I was subtly bringing up the "Sensitive Guy" from your posts last week.
Of course you would not have "Bread". I was meaning David Gates.
(Just making a weak funny...)
Holy Bat Shit! I remember those, out here on the left coast! Thanks!!!
JG; I know you knew some of these "Dopin' Dan" types in the Army after the greater Southeastern Asian adventures of the early seventies! 'specially as the "Man".
Heh, is it bad that my first thought on seeing the Dopin' Dan comic (before reading your caption for it) was, "that looks like Buck"?
Reminds me of a picture he posted over at his place in which he was wearing clothes pretty similar to those...I think he may have even been toting a backpack.
Mike; Good call. But the comics are fictional but the 70's and early 80's had some serious drug problems in our Military.
But still, that could be someone Buck knew, walking the lonely road from Fort Bragg to Fayetteville. Soldier or Airman.
With a Norman Greenbaum 8-track in his back pack (For Later).
Mike sez: I think he may have even been toting a backpack.
If you're talking about the recent Yellowstone pic I put up... I was wearing a backpack. No 8-tracks, though.
Thanks for coming back, Buck.
I really did not know of anyone who had eight track's of "Bread" or David Gates, either.
My eight track fave's for 1978 was Nugent's "Free For All", Lou Reed "Transformer" and the Stones' "Some Girls".
Oh yeah, we wore out an Iron Butterfly tape, too.
Heh. I never owned an 8-track, period. I lucked out and opted for cassettes when that particular episode of medium-competition was in full force. I also opted for VHS over Beta, too. Luck o' the draw, for the most part...
