At 1800, there will be a meeting of boat Skippers for the St Augustine Cruise and Fishing Contest.
We will be talking about our berthing arrangements at Camachee Cove
and also whatever they want to discuss concerning the fishing.
I'm not sure of the way we will go; Either the ocean or the Intracoastal. The ocean is quicker and we can drag a lure behind and maybe catch a Dorado or Mackerel. We can also just set the autohelm and throttle and just relax, there are no obstructions and it is a big ocean.
The ICW is protected from the winds and ocean swells, so it would be much smoother but slower going. Not to mention the rude boats going the speed of heat who leave irresponsible wakes.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the stupid address bubble when adding Google Map to Blog?
Anyhow, you can see that the Intracoastal is twisty while the ocean looks invitingly straight. It will just depend on winds and wave heights.
Hyacinth gets scared, you know.

I don't know about the address bubble, but I did see something interesting that I hadn't noticed before...You can see it on your linked map, but even better on the "View Larger" link - when you zoom out, it appears that the continental shelf shows up - at least I think that is what is delineated in the water.
My first ocean sailing (and swimming) was in CA - Monterrey Bay. Short story is I remember being told that the shore breakers - so much larger than FL, were because the shelf was close to land in CA as opposed to FL where it is further out. I imagine this is common knowledge but this is the first I really took time to look :) .
Either way IC or Ocean - can't wait to read the after reports!
Oh, I can't remember the right name for them - all I can think of is "roller stoppers" and I'm 99.9% sure that is not right...the boom thingies that you lower to dampen the roll. My brother has them on his trawler as both the previous owner and he did/do a fair amount of open ocean cruising, but he gets disgusted when people mistake him for a shrimper... However, he says they make things considerably more comfy for their beagle Chloe and of course, her staff...

Monterey. Cold water. Fun place.
That shelf is the Gulf Stream, I think. The waves tend to be out of the South East due to winds predominating. North East is the worst, making for a choppy ride.
I have seen those down rigger devices, but we don't have them. If we were doing more Ocean cruising, I think they would be very necessary. Most trawler types stay inshore.
Our goal is staying comfortable and not making this an endurance.

Isn't there an "x" in the upper right hand corner of the address bubble? The bubble disappears when you click on the map in your post, anyway.
That x only works on the post. The bubble ruins my view of the great satellite photos.
